THE EVENT

Join us this fall – September 19-20, 2020 – in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to witness an original DH-4 “Liberty” Plane

take to the skies for the first time in 100 years.

America’s first warplane, the DH-4 was the only U.S. produced aircraft to fight in World War I.

This original aircraft has been restored to its former glory ‘to honor and remember’ all American aviators who have flown since the beginning of our nation’s aviation history.  Once in the air, it will be the only restored DH-4 “Liberty” flying in the world.

Festivities will honor members of all branches of service, and include representatives from America, England, and France.

THE DH-4’s HISTORY

The DH-4’s story is one of American ingenuity, determination, courage and achievement. Without America’s first warplane, overnight mail service, air-to-air refueling, supersonic fighter jets, and future missions to Mars might have been inconceivable.

This 1918 DH-4 Liberty plane’s list of aviation firsts are legendary:

  • The only U.S. built warplane to fly in combat during World War I
  • The plane chosen to establish the 1st cross country airmail flight
  • The aircraft that won the 1st transcontinental air race
  • The plane that established air-to-air refueling
  • The first plane used for regular air passenger service

The restoration of this original 1918 plane honors the innovative minds who conceived it, the pilots who flew it, and all of the aviation milestones that have come since. Please join us in this important and commemorative celebration.
